Since the last post on how most blogging gurus are missing something resonated with many (who expressed their thanks and relief in the comments), I thought it appropriate to lay down some Gateway Blogging 101. What is Gateway Blogging and what are the basic ideas behind it? Read on to the end to find out:
Gateway Blogging is a System to Create and Run a Business Blog–Successfully
Gateway Blogging is a method or a system for business blogging I created in October of 2007 that is designed to help a business further its objectives–usually in the form of increasing sales. It does this through the use of techniques that help business people turn their blogs into gateways for their products and services. It does this without overselling, which turns customers off, and without underselling, which turns your blog into a time and money sink. Gateway Blogging enables you to sell without selling.
Gateway Blogging is made up of three major components:
These components and other vital knowledge about your business objectives set the stage for always knowing what to write about on a business blog.
Gateway Blogging is a Place Online Where You Can Learn the System
Gateway Blogging is going to be an online learning program that will teach you step-by-step and help you successfully implement Gateway Blogging for your business. Because the business knowledge and skills are most often everyone’s weakest points, Gateway Blogging is going to one part business school and one part blogging school. The combination will be like nothing you’ve ever seen on the web.
This business side of Gateway Blogging is critical for two reasons:
- Many bloggers are looking for better ways to make money online through their blogs. Where most blogging monetization fails, business blogging can succeed–but there needs to be a business, first.
- Many business people are failing to use blogs correctly to market their business and increase sales. Gateway Blogging is based on solid business, sales, and copywriting know-how, which will allow a business blog to provide real ROI.
The Gateway Blogging Online Learning Program will address the needs of both groups. Each one crosses over the other in many ways, making the combination of business school with blogging school almost as good as peanut butter and chocolate!
Gateway Blogging Resources Beyond the Learning
In addition to the many learning modules (both text and multimedia), Gateway Blogging members will also have access to a variety of useful resources. These resources would normally only be available for sale, but they will be included in the Gateway Blogging membership. Some of the resources will be unique to Gateway Blogging and will not available at all elsewhere online.

Oooh, I see it coming now. The word MULTIMEDIA just had my heart sink in a big way.
As Michael knows, I don’t like video. It chains me to a computer and forces me to focus directly. I need sound, I need quiet in the room, I need to watch and can’t multitask. I can’t stop and start easily and I’m stuck. Jammed. Prisoner.
There’s nothing worse - for me - than to pay money for a membership, program or course where I can’t easily access all the information in the format I prefer. Teaching Sells is a good example. I don’t use half the information simply because of the video requirements to access it. A good transcript (easily done using VA services) would open that wide up for me and make me a very happy camper.
So. While I love your idea and while I’m all in for this program, I am already thinking, “Great. I won’t have access to half the material because of the way I live, learn and work.”
Solutions?
@James - You raise a good point. You’re not the only one who feels this way (although you just may be the most vocal about it
). While I may be lax on the transcript thing when I do videos for Remarkablogger, I plan on all videos having transcripts for Gateway Blogging. In order to really meet people’s different learning modalities, no one modality deserves to be shorted.
If you want to take a peek at the one of the interactive tools we plan to use (called VoiceThread), check out Greg’s presentation on Entrepreneurial Skill Sets. There’s no reason why the original presentation couldn’t be transcribed.
Oh you made me so happy. I didn’t want to rain on your parade but that’s a big, big factor with me. (I know, I don’t shut up about it, eh? lol)
I also like having an audio version of video (I think that can be done very easily as you set up the Audacity audio track), as I’m a junkie for playing stuff in my car on my commute.
I’m with James - I’m leery of video however,I realize it’s the way the Internet is moving. So I’m up for it….
Barbara
@Sonia - That’s a very strong possibility.
@Barbara - the rewards go to the brave!
I think James definitely voices a very good point. Like him I like to multi task and listen to voice when I do something else, like washing the dishes (hehehe, yeah, us ladies have to do that too).
So a transcript of a video into MP3 would be great to take with me on the pod when I go walking.
I look forward to what you guys have to offer.
Not that we want to add to your workload or anything, Michael, but could we also have fries with all that?

I have a wireless internet connection. Sometimes it’s broadband if I’m in the right place, but right now it’s the equivalent of dial-up. So videos take a LOOOOOOOONG time to load, and I don’t watch very many. I’ve downloaded MP3’s and never get around to listening to many of them. So transcripts are the way to go for me.
Fries, mhhh but only if they come with ketchup. And chicken salt. And……feel free to add your own ingredient here.
@ James: there is nothing like making the man work before a big launch.
I don’t want people to get the wrong impression about things, so please let me put you at ease about something.
Where there is video, transcripts and audio-only versions will be available. I promise you this.
I know very well that most of the world prefers text and audio over video for learning. Also, in order for us to get this material ready sometime before the Mayan calendar rolls around and the world ends, we will have the text versions of everything created first. Greg and I are big fans of mind-mapping and using diagrams to convey concepts, so you will see those in with the text.
Oh, and I like my frites with aoli. Guess I’ll have to get that myself.
